The Rain of Awards at NTTU Student Research Awards – Euréka 2023

NTTU – With 5 projects competing in the Final Round of the Euréka 2023 Student Research Awards, students from Nguyen Tat Thanh University achieved a total of 9 awards, including 1 First Prize, 1 Third Prize, 3 Encouragement Prizes, 3 Most Voted Poster Awards, and 1 Most Voted ‘Scientific Story’ Video Award.

The final round of the Euréka 2023 Student Research Awards took place from November 23 to 26 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, featuring various activities such as scientific presentations before the council, exchange programs, the Euréka Student Research Awards camp, the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Euréka Student Research Awards, and the award ceremony. Out of a total of 178 projects from universities and colleges nationwide in 14 outstanding fields that advanced to the final round, Nguyen Tat Thanh University participated in four fields with five projects.

In the final result, the project ‘Research, Design, and Manufacturing of a 4-parameter Monitor Device’ by student Truong Thi Thuy Trang in the field of Engineering, under the guidance of MSc. Nguyen Sy Suu, remarkably won the First Prize. Additionally, Nguyen Tat Thanh University is the only non-public university with a project that achieved the First Prize.

Nguyen Tat Thanh University was the only private university with a project winning the First Prize.

The Third Prize went to the project ‘Coffee Shell Enriched with Bioactive Compounds, Supporting Weight Control and Improving Liver Function’ by the student group including Pham Quang Hoa, Phan Quang Khai, Pham Gia Bao, Ngo Thi Ngoc Han, and Truong Thi Hong Tham, under the guidance of Dr. Do Anh Duy and MSc. Phan Van Thach.

The three encouragement prizes belonged to the Research Project on the Synthesis Process of Herbal Pesticides from Neem Oil and Extracted Neem Seeds under the guidance of MSc. Phạm Hoàng Danh; the Evaluation of Wastewater Treatment Capability and Biomass Development of the Spirulina Bioreactor Technology by students Trương Hoàng Ngọc Ly, Dương Hoàng Kha under the guidance of Dr. Võ Thị Diều Hiền and Dr. Lê Thị Ngọc Châu; and the Probiotic Lactobacillus from Kimchi: Isolation, Probiotic Activity Determination, Fixation in Alginate Gel Coated with Chitosan, and Application in Beverages by the student group Phạm Trần Kim Ngân, Nguyễn Thị Thúy Quyên, Trần Phạm Yến Nhi under the guidance of MSc. Nguyễn Như Ngọc and MSc. Nguyễn Quốc Duy.

Additionally, the Euréka 2023 Student Research Awards Organizing Committee also presented the Most Voted Poster Award and the Most Voted ‘Scientific Story’ Video Award. Nguyen Tat Thanh University received three Poster Awards for the projects: ‘Utilizing Algae Biomass as Adsorbent Material for Antibiotic Removal in Water’ by author Nguyen Thao Uyen, ‘Using Chemicals to Aggregate Algae’ by author Tran Phung Nha Thuyen, and ‘Identifying the Pathogen Causing Purple Shallot (Allium ascalonicum) Rot in Ninh Thuan during Storage and the Effect of Temperature on Disease Development’ by the author group Doan Thi Kim Phung, Vo Thi Ngoc Nhi, Nguyen Xuan Cong. The Most Voted ‘Scientific Story’ Video Award went to the project ‘Coffee Shell Enriched with Bioactive Compounds, Supporting Weight Control and Improving Liver Function’ by the author group Pham Quang Hoa, Phan Quang Khai, Pham Gia Bao, Ngo Thi Ngoc Han, Truong Thi Hong Tham.

A Shower of Awards for Nguyen Tat Thanh University

The year 2023 marks a quarter of a century of the Euréka Student Research Awards, reflecting on the journey with numerous achievements in vigorously promoting the scientific research movement among students. This effort has nurtured many young scientists from their time in academia, contributing to the training of future scientific professionals. On this occasion, Nguyen Tat Thanh University is one of the 36 institutions honored by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union with a certificate of commendation for its significant contributions over the 25-year journey of organizing the awards.

Throughout its 24 years of formation and development, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has consistently prioritized substantial investment in scientific research. The university is keenly aware of the educational mission to continually enhance the quality of training, bridging the gap between theoretical education and practical requirements. Concurrently, the university creates conditions to facilitate and promote the transfer and application of new scientific and technological advancements in daily life. The collective efforts of the faculty and students of Nguyen Tat Thanh University have yielded impressive and pride-worthy results, such as being ranked among the top 20 universities for scientific research by UPM, and securing a position in the top 5 scientific journals in Vietnam with the highest impact factor in 2020.
