Nguyen Tat Thanh University participates in Vietnam Higher Education Exhibition in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on September 30th, 2022

On September 29th, 2022, in the capital Vientiane of Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam (MOET) cooperated with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos to organize a forum on improving the training quality in cooperative programs between Vietnam and Laos and the Vietnam – Laos higher education exhibition. This was an educational event held to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the 45th anniversary of signing the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The exhibition welcomed 51 educational institutions, 34 universities from Vietnam and 17 educational institutions in Laos. This is an opportunity to help pupils, students, lecturers, researchers, higher education managers in Laos to network, exchange information, as well as explore scholarship and cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese universities. The Vietnam Higher Education Exhibition attracted more than 1,300 12th graders from 12 high schools in Vientiane.

Nguyen Van Phuc – Deputy Minister of MOET, Phout Simmalavong – Minister, Ministry of Education and Sports; Nguyen Ba Hung – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Laos; Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos; Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Technologies and Communications of Laos participated in the exhibition.

Representatives of Nguyen Tat Thanh University (NTTU) attending this event were Dr. Hoang Huu Dung, Vice President, Mr. Nguyen Quynh Son, Deputy Head of Student Recruitment Department, Director of the ASEAN Center, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Deputy Director of the ASEAN Center, etc. During their visits, the representative of NTTU had a meeting with Mr. Bounthanh Seangmani, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Sports in Vientiane.

NTTU had an exhibition booth with promotion materials printed in Vietnamese and Laotian to introduce to students and exhibition participants about the potential and strengths in training activities and training quality, especially experiences in offering high-quality training programs for international students, including Laotian students in terms of learning material and extracurricular activity support, scholarship programs, etc.

Previously, NTTU visited and met with the Board of Presidents and students of Vientiane-Ho Chi Minh Friendship High School to introduce the operation and management of the school. At this event, Vice President of NTTU awarded 5 scholarships to pupils (full scholarships for students studying at NTTU). In addition, representatives of NTTU also visited the campus of Vientiane-Ho Chi Minh Friendship High School.

The Vientiane – Ho Chi Minh Friendship High School was initiated by Comrade Nguyen Minh Triet, former Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Comrade Thongsing Thammavong, former Secretary of the Party Committee – Mayor of Vientiane Capital. Former Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Vientiane – Ho Chi Minh City Friendship High School is considered as one of the symbols of solidarity and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in general, between Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane in particular. It embeds the close friendship between the two countries through generations and also the pride of teachers and students.

Over the years, many generations of Laotian international students have returned to their home countries to work and hold important positions in governmental agencies, educational institutions and businesses in Laos, contributing greatly to the socio-economic development of Laos. Currently, there are about 14,000 Laotian international students studying in Vietnam at nearly 160 nationwide educational institutions in all majors offered by Vietnamese universities with diverse training programs such as short-term, language study, undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate, specialized internship, etc. At NTTU, there are more than 200 Laotian international students majoring in different academic fields. In addition to the regular programs, international students in general, and Lao students in particular are also supported by NTTU with scholarships, accommodation, and extracurricular activities through cultural exchange programs, physical training and sports, celebration of traditional holidays such as Tet holiday, language clubs for international students to practice Vietnamese. This facilitates students to well-adapt and successfully complete their learning goals. Meanwhile, these supports can actively contribute to the training of high-quality human resources for the national development of Laos, hence further tightening the friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
