40 students from Laos and Cambodia awarded Outstanding Student title

 

NTTU – On December 3rd, 2023, Nguyen Tat Thanh University hosted the program “Commendation of Outstanding Students and Trainees from Laos and Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City 2023.”

NTTU – On December 3rd, 2023, at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, the program “Commendation of Outstanding Students and Trainees from Laos and Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City 2023” was held. The event was organized by the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and the Board of Directors of the Lao Student Dormitory in Ho Chi Minh City to encourage and reward outstanding students and trainees from Laos and Cambodia who have achieved excellence in their studies and participated in cultural exchange activities. This program aimed to motivate and inspire students from these two countries studying in Ho Chi Minh City. It also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the National Day of the Kingdom of Cambodia (November 9th, 1953 – November 9th, 2023); the 48th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (December 2nd, 1975 – December 2nd, 2023); and welcomed the 11th National Congress of the Vietnamese Students’ Association (2023–2028 term).

The event was attended by Mr. Phonesy Bounmixay – Consul General of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Kith Sothearith – Consul, Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Tran Thi Hong Nguyet – Head of the Mass Mobilization Department of the political system, Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Mr. Vo Van Yen – Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Central Agencies Bloc in Ho Chi Minh City; TS. Tran Ai Cam – President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Vice President of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Tran Thu Ha – Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Student Union; Ms. Trinh Thi Hien Tran – Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union Council; Mr. Nguyen Tat Toan – Member of the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, Director of the Lao Student Dormitory in Ho Chi Minh City; representatives from the Self-Governing Board of Lao Students, the Cambodian Student Association in Ho Chi Minh City; representatives from the Permanent Youth Union, the Student Union of universities and colleges; and especially the presence of 123 outstanding students and trainees from Laos and Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023.

According to information from the evaluation and commendation council, in 2023, out of 127 profiles submitted from 13 universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City, the council reviewed and unanimously commended 107 outstanding students and 16 outstanding students from Laos and Cambodia. Among them, Nguyen Tat Thanh University had a total of 40 students (36 from Laos, 4 from Cambodia) commended in this round, accounting for nearly 1/3 of the total and having the highest number of students commended among all universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City this year.

The students of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, along with outstanding students from Laos and Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023, participated in an exchange program.

Each student from Laos and Cambodia came to Ho Chi Minh City with different circumstances and conditions, but they shared a common spirit of progress, eagerness to learn, and the ability to quickly overcome language and cultural barriers to study and engage with Vietnamese students. They strive to achieve the title of “Outstanding Students of Laos and Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City,” recognized for their excellence in academics and their participation in friendly activities.

Mrs Tran Thu Ha, Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union and Chairwoman of the City Vietnam Students’ Association, delivered congratulatory remarks to commend the exemplary individuals who were honored.

These exemplary individuals are not only shining examples in their studies and personal development but also positive contributors to the sustainable development of the friendship between Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia. Out of the 123 students and trainees honored in this round, 109 students have achieved distinctions in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Particularly noteworthy are the 14 students who have strived and achieved the title of “Outstanding Lao and Cambodian Students” continuously for 4, 5, or even 6 years.

Addressing all students and trainees honored at the program, Mrs. Tran Thu Ha expressed hope that all of them would continue to be shining examples in their studies, actively engage in self-improvement, and participate in activities at their dormitories and the university where they are studying.

“We are delighted that many Laotian and Cambodian students have received love, care, and every opportunity to study and live in Ho Chi Minh City, helping them to grow and progress, especially being outstandingly present at today’s award ceremony. This also demonstrates the continued implementation of volunteer activities by Vietnamese youth in your country, leaving a positive mark and laying the foundation for Laotian and Cambodian students to study and train better, appreciate, and preserve the good traditional friendship of the three nations.”

Since 2015, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has welcomed over 300 students from Laos and Cambodia to study in various undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Since 2018, the university has established the International Student Support Center, which is responsible for providing comprehensive support in terms of academics, accommodation, activities, and spiritual care, aiming to help Laotian and Cambodian students feel at ease studying far from their families and hometowns. The academic achievements of these students at the university have been recognized. With this attention and support, the university hopes to make a positive contribution to the training of human resources in your country, while also enhancing the solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and Laos, as well as Vietnam and Cambodia.
