Semi-final of 22nd Scientific Research Student Award Euréka 2020 – in the field of Biotechnology – Pharmacy

On October 23, 2020, the 22nd Euréka Scientific Research Student Award – semi-final round, 2020, took place at Nguyen Tat Thanh University in the field of Biotechnology – Pharmacy.

The semi-final welcomed the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Cong Luan – President of Tay Do University, Chairman; Prof. Nguyen Cuu Khoa – Former Director of Institute of Applied Materials Science, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Mr Doan Kim Thanh – Member of the Standing Committee of Youth Union, Director of Youth Science and Technology Development Centre, Head of the organizing committee. Representatives from Nguyen Tat Thanh University include Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Hong – Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bach Long Giang – Head of Science and Technology Department and members of the organizers, professors in the science council, lecturers and participants.

The Euréka Scientific Research Student Award (ESRSA) is a noble award for students who are passionate about scientific research, organized annually by the HCMC Youth Union and HCMC Vietnam National University, with the support from the Agency for Southern Affairs – Ministry of Science and Technology, Centre for Science and Technology Development for Youth as the standing agency of the organizer. This is an academic playground, assisting students nationwide to study, create and conduct scientific research, fostering creative ideas of students.

In 2020, ESRSA attracted the participation of 114 universities, colleges and institutes from 29 provinces across the country, including 46 schools located in Ho Chi Minh City and 68 schools from other provinces. The contest covers 12 scientific fields with a total of 2,735 contestants. Particularly, the field of Biotechnology – Pharmacy had 87 participating projects of nearly 210 candidates. This is a very meaningful contest for all students and lecturers of Nguyen Tat Thanh University to share their passion for scientific research. It is also an opportunity for NTTU to interact with HCMC-based and nationwide universities.

The organizer also invited 26 experts and scientists to participate in the Assessment committee to evaluate students’ projects. The research topics were presented in the forms of posters and presentations. After the presentation, the scientific council discussed and questioned the contestants.

At the award, an MOU signing ceremony between Youth Science and Technology Development Centre and Nguyen Tat Thanh University was held. The MOU aims to further promote creative scientific research activities of pupils and students in Ho Chi Minh City in general and at NTTU in particular. It also strengthens scientific and technological research activities and to create a long-term collaboration for the development of scientific and technological activities between the Centre and the University. Both sides also agree to provide mutual support in activities associated with science and technology for young lecturers – young researchers and students. Besides, the two institutions will cooperate to organize annual programs and activities to promote creativity and scientific research.

As a practical application-oriented university, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has invested tens of thousands of VND for scientific research. Up to now, more than 14 state-level research projects, 30 ministerial-level projects, 22 departments-level projects, more than 1,000 university-level research projects have been implemented. Moreover, NTTU published more than 1,400 scientific papers in ISI / SCOPUS journals, more than 700 articles published in other domestic and international journals. The goal of scientific and technological activities in the period of 2020-2025 is “to develop and expand scientific and technological activities towards the direction of applied research to enhance training quality, technology transfer and community service, innovation and entrepreneurship; and higher rank in scientific research domestically and internationally”.
