Scientific conference on “Smart tourism development in association with heritage values preservation and local advantages exploitation of Ben Tre province”

On April 28, 2023, Nguyen Tat Thanh University cooperated with the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ben Tre province, Ben Tre Telecommunications and Thanh Phu District People’s Committee held the scientific conference on “Smart tourism development associates with preserving and promoting heritage values ​​and exploiting local advantages of Ben Tre province”. This is a program in the series of Thanh Phu Beach Culture – Sports – Tourism Week in 2023 taking place from April 27, 2023 to May 2, 2023, and activities to celebrate Vietnam Science and Technology Day May 18.  

The workshop aims to contribute to the development of tourism in coastal districts in particular and tourism in Ben Tre province in general; make positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the province; integrate with the general tourism development trend of the region and the whole country. At the same time, it creates a forum for scientists to exchange, share and discuss theoretical and practical issues, then expand cooperation and trade promotion to attract investment potential. Thereby, restoring and creating a highlight for tourism development in 2023 together with preserving and promoting heritage values and exploiting indigenous resources, local advantages to promote sustainable development towards a green Ben Tre.

Speaking at the opening session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lam Van Tan – Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ben Tre Province, said “we look forward to receiving many opinions and suggestions to develop the tourism of Ben Tre in general and Thanh Phu District in particular, specifically the application of smart tourism to exploit tourism resources and preserve local cultural values. The comments and suggestions in this conference will be seen as a basis for State management agencies, tourism non-business and businesses to research and apply in the process of management and development of tourism development programs, schemes and plans of the province, each locality and each tourism business. Thereby creating unique, specialized tourist destination models in order to contribute to the development of tourism activities of Ben Tre province in particular, Mekong River Delta and the whole country more sustainably”.

Most of speakers and experts agreed that the development of smart tourism associated with conservation, promotion of heritage values and exploitation of indigenous resources in Ben Tre province is extremely necessary, to further strengthen the cooperation between local authorities and businesses in Ben Tre province with travel agencies, restaurants, hotels, tourism associations in Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong River Delta; the closer this connection is, the more benefits the tourism industry brings to the locality, contributing to boosting the economy as well as implementing other socio-cultural activities.
