NTTU students win the champion and 2nd runner-up at the ‘Design Thinking – Open Innovation 2023’

After more than 6 months of participating in the Design Thinking – Open Innovation 2023, students of Nguyen Tat Thanh University (NTTU) excellently won the first and third prize at the Design Thinking – Open Innovation 2023 competition taking place at NTTU on the morning of September 9, 2023.

NTTU in collaboration with the Innovative Design Thinking Village organized the competition with the purpose of promoting innovation selecting projects with feasibility, creativity for its implementation, creating values and benefits to social communities. Implementing the award-winning projects is a way of promoting passion for entrepreneurship amongst young people and students during their university studies.

Attending the final round and awarding program of the Design Thinking – Open Innovation 2023 competition, there were Mr. Pham Hong Quat – Head of the National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development, a member of the organizing Committee of the ‘Design Thinking – Open Innovation’ competition and other members of the Organizing Committee, sponsors/co-sponsors, delegates from institutes, universities and enterprises in the Southern region;

According to Ms. Duong Tuong Nhi – Chair of the organizing committee, this year’s competition was launched in March 2023 with the theme “Promoting the development of the open innovation ecosystem” and has attracted nearly 100 startup projects and student participants from 15 provinces and cities across the country. Especially, NTTU Innovation and Incubation Center (NIIC) at NTTU has facilitated and supported the participating teams to be trained to effectively apply Design Thinking to implement ideas into practice and product commercialization. Through many rounds of competition, the final round of Design Thinking – Open Innovation 2023 included 21 teams (7 teams in the Startup Business session and 14 teams in the Student startup session).

The projects in the final round were highly appreciated by the judges because of its practicality, addressing the urgent needs of social communities, solutions-based innovation and efficiency. As the final results in the Student startup session, the first prize went to HFG – Herbal Mushroom For Green Environment (Nguyen Tat Thanh University & University of Natural Resources and Environment) team with the project “HMG Herbal Abalone Mushroom”. The StarDev team (Lac Hong University) won the second prize with the project “ITFSD Ecosystem”. The third prize also belongs to NTTU, with the Q HAIR team and the project “Green product set to take care of your hair”. The consolation prize went to ‘the Sun’ team (Lam Dong Province) with the project “Shampoo and hair care gel from wormwood”.

In addition, the organizer and competition judges are all experts with expertise and experience in the field of startups and entrepreneurship.

To further promote innovation and application of design thinking in building and developing products, services and business activities, Dr. Tran Ai Cam emphasized that “the competition is a bridge to facilitate development and incubation of startup projects. Design Thinking – Open Innovation 2023 is an academic playground that promotes entrepreneurial passion among young people and students, especially researchers, SME businesses and entrepreneurs to engage in exchanging and interacting to perfect their startup ideas, thereby bringing values and benefits to the community”.
