Nguyen Tat Thanh University welcomes delegates from Department of Education and Sports of Vientiane Capital (Laos)

NTTU – On the afternoon of September 27th, at the main campus in District 4, Nguyen Tat Thanh University welcomed the Department of Education and Sports of Vientiane Capital (Laos) to visit and work on potential collaboration.

The delegation was led by Mr. Somphone Sonedala – Director and other members including Mr. Lonphanh Phaodavanh – Consul General of the Consulate General of Lao PDR in HCM City.

Welcoming the working group, representatives from Nguyen Tat Thanh University were Dr. Tran Ai Cam – President; Mr. Hoang Huu Tien – Chief of University Office; Mr Nguyen Tran Nhu Quynh – Director of Admissions Consulting Center; Mr. Bui Quang Trung – Head of Communications Department; Mr Nguyen Quynh Son – Director of the International Student Support Center and 40 Lao students studying at the University.

On behalf of the University Council and Board of Presidents of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Dr. Tran Ai Cam sent greetings to the delegation and shared that Nguyen Tat Thanh University was a member of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Friendship Association and also established the Vietnam – Laos Friendship Association at the university

In recent years, international students studying at campuses, including Lao students, have received a lot of support from the University. She believes that the presence of Lao students and exchange programs at the University have enriched and transmitted the culture values of the two peoples to each other, contributing to tightening the friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

At the meeting, Nguyen Tat Thanh University discussed the enrollment and academic training activities for Lao students, especially the postgraduate programs. The University also expressed its vision to build mobility and exchange programs for lecturers between Nguyen Tat Thanh University and universities in Vientiane Capital (Laos) for the purpose of experiences, academic, and scientific research exchanges.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Somphone Sonedala – Director of the Department of Education and Sports of Vientiane Capital (Laos) highly appreciated the achievements that Nguyen Tat Thanh University has achieved over the past 24 years, and sent thanks to the Board of Presidents for providing much support to Lao students studying at the University. Mr. Somphone Sonedala said, in the policy of cooperation and development between Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane Capital, human resource education was prioritized by the leaders of the two sides, so the admissions of Lao students to Nguyen Tat Thanh University will contribute to the success of this cooperation.

Regarding the contents exchanged between the two parties, Mr. Lonphanh Phaodavanh – Consul General of the Consulate General of the Lao PDR, Ho Chi Minh City expressed his goodwill towards the issues raised by Nguyen Tat Thanh University. Besides, Mr. Lonphanh Phaodavanh also proposed that Nguyen Tat Thanh University and the Department of Education and Sports of Vientiane Capital (Laos) will assign personnel to be in charge of implementing the issues agreed upon by the two sides.

At the meeting, Nguyen Tat Thanh University and the Department of Education and Sports of Vientiane Capital (Laos) signed a memorandum of Understanding which covered some areas such as: cooperation in career orientation, enrolments for training programs at Nguyen Tat Thanh University; the development and implementation of networking and exchange programs for lecturers and students between Nguyen Tat Thanh University and universities and colleges in Vientiane Capital (Laos); scholarships from Nguyen Tat Thanh University for Lao students with excellent academic achievements or difficult circumstances.

Statistics show that from 2015 to present, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has welcomed more than 250 Lao students into both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In 2018, the University decided to establish the International Student Support Center to help foreign student affairs.

In the 2023 – 2024 academic year, there are 44 Lao and Cambodian students enrolling in the disciplines of Medicine and Pharmacy at Nguyen Tat Thanh University. The University provides accommodation for international students and often organizes many cultural exchange sports programmes enriching student life experience such as International Student Sports Festival, Vietnamese Karaoke Competition, Mid-Autumn Festival Volunteer Activities, Field Trip Programs, Vietnamese Traditional Tet for international students, Laos and Cambodian Traditional Tet,…
