Workshop on Green Libraries Development for Nguyen Tat Thanh University
NTTU – On March 9, 2023, Nguyen Tat Thanh University successfully organized the workshop: “Green Libraries Development for Nguyen Tat Thanh University” both face-to-face and online.
The program was attended by experts from Chualalongkorn University (Thailand), Vietnam-Germany University. Representatives from Nguyen Tat Thanh University included Dr. Tran Ai Cam – President, together with leaders of Faculty of Architecture, Interior and Applied Fine Arts, and all staff of Center for Information – Library.
Development of Green libraries in universities is a trend that universities around the world are interested in. With the goal of encouraging libraries globally to develop sustainably, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) annually organizes awards related to green libraries and attracts the most attention of many libraries around the world.
Speaking at the opening of the program, Dr. Tran Ai Cam shared: “Nguyen Tat Thanh University is currently implementing many programs under the digital transformation project for management, academic training, and scientific research, including the library digital transformation program with the common goal that is to build digital learning resources to meet digital learners and digital teachers in the digital learning environment of the University in the coming time. In parallel with the implementation of the digital transformation program, the University’s activities have also focused on the criteria to build a green university model that meets the criteria of sustainable development, in which the green library project was first piloted by the University”.
Also at the workshop, experts from Chulalongkorn University reported and shared practical experiences in developing green libraries, specifically building green strategies; roadmap to achieve green library standards; standards applied to measure such as green office and green libraries Thailand and international standards, including ISO 14001:2015, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations; Managing and monitoring data on environmental indicators; Resources involved in implementing the Green Library project; System of processes for implementation; Green communication strategy to the whole University. Besides, the speakers from the Vietnam-Germany University also shared their experiences in the construction of a green library according to IFLA standards and documents submitted for the IFLA Green Library Award.
Through the workshop, the Library Information Center of Nguyen Tat Thanh University has had the opportunity to systematically approach the Green Library criteria according to IFLA’s standards and practical experience from experts to successfully implement its plan to develop a Green Library for the University in the near future.
