The inauguration ceremony of “India Corner” at Nguyen Tat Thanh University

NTTU – On the morning of November 28, 2024, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, in cooperation with the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, successfully held the inauguration ceremony of the “India Corner” at the university’s Center for Information and Library 

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Mahesh Chand Giri, the Acting Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, along with his delegation. From Nguyen Tat Thanh University, representatives included Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Hong – Vice President; Dr. Ho Van Han – Dean, Faculty of Foreign Languages; Mr. Le Quang Khanh – Head, the International Relations Department; Mr. Le Tan Thanh – Vice Dean, Faculty of Tourism;  Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Kieu – Director, Information and Library Center; as well as faculties and staff, including department heads, deputy heads, and members from various departments, faculties, and centers across the university.

The “India Corner” at Nguyen Tat Thanh University was mostly donated by the Consulate General of India to students and faculty members. It includes a bookshelf with hundreds of books, table, chair, and computer, aimed at introducing the culture, history, people, and country of India to students. This corner serves as a valuable cultural symbol and a place of connection for cultural and educational exchanges between Vietnam and India in general, and between Nguyen Tat Thanh University and the Consulate General of India in particular. It contributes to deepening the long-standing, strong relationship between Vietnam and India and opens up many opportunities for cooperation in areas such as culture, education, economics, and trade between the two countries.

In her opening speech at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Hong, Vice President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, expressed her gratitude to the Consulate General of India for providing the university’s faculty and students with the opportunity to explore Indian culture and expand students’ knowledge about the beautiful country of India.

(1) India is famous for its rich culture and heritage, with the vibrant beauty of its traditions, languages, and arts spanning over 5,000 years. The country is home to 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and hosts numerous festivals such as Diwali and Holi. With over 121 languages, India is a global symbol of cultural diversity.

(2) India is also a leader in technological advancements. Global tech companies such as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and Wipro have placed India at the forefront of the global technology industry. In 2023, India’s space program, led by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), achieved a historic milestone by successfully landing the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon’s South Pole. Furthermore, India is ranked as the second-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world and boasts one of the fastest-growing tech startup ecosystems.

“The India Corner will serve as a hub for Nguyen Tat Thanh University students to explore the culture, history, and literature of India; contributing to a deeper understanding between the two countries through collaborative initiatives between the university and the Consulate General of India. The India Corner will play a vital role in promoting the university’s internationalization process, enhancing the quality of education, and better equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in the context of global integration,” Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Hong added.

At the ceremony, Mr. Mahesh Chand Giri, Acting Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his desire to expand the cooperative relationship and connections with Nguyen Tat Thanh University to facilitate student and faculty exchanges, organize scientific seminars, and host cultural exchange programs. These initiatives aim to help students from Nguyen Tat Thanh University and India better understand the cultures of both countries. Through the India Corner, students and faculty will have the opportunity to explore and learn more about India’s rich culture and long history.

As part of the program, students from the Faculty of Tourism at Nguyen Tat Thanh University also showcased traditional costumes from various Vietnamese ethnic groups and traditional Indian attire, accompanied by traditional Vietnamese and Indian music. They provided a brief introduction to the history and cultural significance of the costumes. The performances left a strong impression at the ceremony, with continuous applause and high praise from the Indian Consulate delegation.

The relationship between the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and Nguyen Tat Thanh University has continuously developed positively, as evidenced by visits and working sessions between leaders of both sides, the signing of memoranda of understanding for cooperation, and the organization of cultural events, business fairs, and recruitment events. Additionally, Indian companies and the Consulate General of India have welcomed faculty and students from the International Relations program of the Faculty of Tourism at Nguyen Tat Thanh University for practical work experience and engagement.
