QS Stars – UK rated Nguyen Tat Thanh University as a 4 Star institution
Going through the rigorous and independent processes in data collection and performance evaluation according to QS Stars’ rating standards, QS Stars officially rated NTTU as a 4 Star institution. This is the first private university in Vietnam received 4 stars from QS Stars.
NTTU’s on-campus facilities were rated a maximum of 5 stars
NTTU was assessed based on 8 indicators, including: Teaching; Employability; Internationalization; Academic Development; Program Strength; Facilities; Social Responsibility; Inclusiveness. Among these, Internationalization and Program Strength were rated 3 stars. Teaching and Social Responsibility were awarded 4 stars. Particularly, 4 out of 8 criteria reached 5 stars which are Employability, Academic Development, Facilities and Inclusiveness. Comparing to the result of 2016, NTTU showed an impressive improvement and considerable innovation after the re-assessment according to QS Stars’ rating Methodology in 2019.

QS Stars rating system is operated from the QS World University Rankings system by QS. This system evaluates the universities based on a range of performance indicators throughout major activities of the assessed university and compared with other pre-established international standards. The scope of criteria is broader than any other worldwide rankings, QS Stars lights up both the excellence and diversity of the rated university.
To achieve 4 stars from this prestigious organization, NTTU has constantly ensured the internal quality, development of human resources, enhancement of the academic curriculum, expansion of collaboration and international exchange, encouragement of academic research, and improvement of basic facilities. Specifically, NTTU participated in the quality assessment of its academic programs based on domestic and regional standards.
In September 2019, 4 majors of NTTU including IT, Business Administration, Banking- Accounting and English Language completed the assessment according to the quality standards of AUN-QA. After that, in October 2019, NTTU passed the assessment of 2 undergraduate programs in Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Hotel Management, based on the Circular 04 of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Apart from the participation in assessing the academic programs, NTTU also incentivized scientific research activities. Until now, there are more than 25 national research projects, 32 Ministry level projects, 22 Department level projects, 4 international cooperation projects; more than 500 university level projects conducted. Moreover, NTTU has 670 research papers published on ISI/SCOPUS indexed journals, 855 papers on domestic and international research journals.

NTTU also stepped up in cooperating internationally with more than 150 universities, institutions from nearly 20 countries worldwide such as the UK, Australia, US, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Hungary, the Philippines, etc. Annually, NTTU sent students to Japan, Germany, Malaysia, Israel, China, etc. to join in internship programs to establish international relationships facilitating students in updating their new knowledge about various academic fields in other countries, as well as welcoming new international students studying at NTTU.
In addition, NTTU has actively participated in many workshops, conferences such as: the 10th QS World Class in Taiwan aimed to stimulate collaboration and establishment of networks among participated universities of QS; the 7th QS MAPLE Conference in Dubai focusing on finding collaborative opportunities with universities from Middle East region; the 13th QS APPLE in Taiwan and the 14th Conference in Korea to continuously learn and expand partnerships with other universities in the QS network.
According to QS Stars’ evaluation: “A QS 4-Star university is a university which has high internationalization level evidenced in the excellence in scientific research and training activities; an ideal learning and teaching environment for students and lecturers”. This is one of the results deriving from the effort of building NTTU to the direction of a practical and applied university over the past 20 years.
QS Stars (full name: QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd) is an organization located in the UK, specializing in education activities and study abroad, established in 1990 by Nunzio Quacquarelli. In 2010, QS introduced the QS World University Rankings, later it became one of the three most reputable rankings in the world, together with Times Higher Education (THE), and Academic Ranking of World University (ARWU). QS Stars is a rating system which evaluates teaching quality of a university scaling up from 1 Star to 5 Stars Plus. QS Stars combines 8 categories and more than 50 criteria in inclusively assessing major activities of a university. |
