Promoting scientific research activities of financial technology and banking at Nguyen Tat Thanh University

In order to improve the effectiveness of scientific research activities in the field of financial technology and banking at Nguyen Tat Thanh University in the context of integration and under the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic; From August 18, 2021 to August 20, 2021, the Faculty of Finance and Banking, the Interdisciplinary Institute of Social Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology co-organized an professional workshop through a online platform.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Hong – Vice President of the University hosted this professional workshop together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bach Long Giang – Head of Science and Technology Department; Dr. Thai Hong Thuy Khanh – Dean of Faculty of Finance and Accounting; Dr. Nguyen Huu Thuan Anh – Deputy Head of Science and Technology Department; Dr. Phan Bui Gia Thuy – Deputy Director of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Social Sciences and other lecturers, heads of the departments participating to present and share their research results that have been successfully implemented in the past.

The workshop  was held online due to the Covid-19 epidemic situation

The situation of the Covid-19 pandemic remains very complicated, affecting the implementation and progress of conducting scientific research of lecturers and researchers of the University. However, with the efforts and determination of our academic staff, along with the active coordination of all departments to successfully plan and build interdisciplinary scientific research directions such as in the field of financial technology and banking. From August 18, 2021 to August 20, 2021, the Faculty of Finance and Accounting has successfully implemented and finalized several research projects, including 04 university-level scientific research projects (02 finalized projects, 02 projects approved for implementation); 13 research projects of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Social Sciences (06 finalized projects, 07 projects approved for implementation). Thanks to the support and hard work of the University and relevant departments, the lecturers of the Faculty of Finance and Accounting were determined and enthusiastic to participate in the implementation of the project, contributing to improving the quality of training.

In the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, digitization within government agencies, businesses and banks is facilitating and strengthening the application and development of financial technology in Vietnam. And the research team in the field of financial technology from the Faculty of Finance and Accounting has successfully implemented studies such as ‘Factors affecting the behavior of using financial technology in Vietnam; Applying Bitcoin cryptocurrency for future payments in Vietnam; Analysis of long-term profitability on business performance in construction – real estate industry in Vietnam; Research on liquidity risk in investment projects. Meanwhile, a number of research findings on the impact Covid-19 epidemic on business activities in Vietnam have also been successfully carried out, for example: Analysis of the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on business performance in the transportation industry listed on the stock market in Vietnam; Analyzing the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on the business performance in the banking sector listed on the stock market in Vietnam.

In order to promote scientific research activities in the field of financial technology and banking in the context of integration and under the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, a number of research topics will continue to be implemented by the Faculty of Finance and Accounting in the coming future, including the topics of Determining the factors affecting the decision to use e-banking applications on smartphones of people living in Ho Chi Minh City; Factors affecting customer behaviours to use digital banking at commercial banks in Ho Chi Minh City; Blockchain technology in peer-to-peer (P2P) lending in Vietnam; Banking and Fintech in Vietnam: competition or partnership; Determining the features of the financial investment software developed on smartphone: Empirical evidence from investors & potential customers in Ho Chi Minh City; Application of the techniques in programming and automation in processing and analyzing stock market data in Ho Chi Minh City; Design and apply techniques of financial math test preparation and automation in changing data in multiple choice questions.

Nguyen Tat Thanh University always encourages a series of professional activities on scientific research to help lecturers and researchers improve their capacity and share their research experiences. This is the foundation to promote the development of interdisciplinary research directions in line with the regional integration, contributing to improving the quality of training, scientific research, technology transfer and community development at Nguyen Tat University.
