NTTU collaborates with the Education and Times Newspaper to organize a career orientation program for high school students.
NTTU – On December 25th, at the District 4 campus, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, in collaboration with the Education and Times Newspaper, organized the launch event for the “Nurturing Dreams” program for the academic year 2023 – 2024.
Attending the program, the guests included: Mr. Do Duc Que – Deputy Head of the Department of High School Education, Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong – Director of the Center for Development of Education and Training in the South, Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Tran Ngoc Huy – Deputy Head of the Department of High School Education, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training; Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh – Head of the Vocational Education Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, along with representatives from central and local media agencies, and television stations.
From the side of the Education and Times Newspaper: Journalist Duong Thanh Huong – Deputy Editor-in-Chief; Journalist Nguyen Anh Tu – Deputy Head of the Resident Office in Ho Chi Minh City, along with reporters and journalists from the Education and Times Newspaper.

Contributing to solving the problem of choosing majors and universities
According to a 2022 survey by the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, among first-year students at several universities: 65.4% of first-year students do not fully understand the purpose and significance of their studies, 50.8% do not know what jobs their majors will lead to and where they can be employed, and 75.6% are not very satisfied with the careers they have chosen. Particularly, 32.4% of students wish to retake their exams the following year.
In light of this situation, Journalist Duong Thi Thanh Huong stated that making career decisions early would help students avoid mistakes in choosing their future paths and reduce risks for them after graduation.

Agreeing with this viewpoint, Dr. Tran Ai Cam, the President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, stated that the university has been a long-time partner with the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education and Training in various provinces and cities in career orientation for students. This is achieved through activities such as real-world experiential visits, organizing career exploration competitions, and hosting career counseling events. These activities help students clearly define and direct their abilities and identify suitable career fields for their studies and future careers.
For many years, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has been a companion to numerous career orientation programs organized by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education and Training in various provinces and cities.
The “Chắp cánh ước mơ” program for the academic year 2023-2024, organized by Nguyen Tat Thanh University in collaboration with the Education and Times newspaper, is a continuation of the “Chắp cánh ước mơ” competition. This program aims to support students in identifying and nurturing their career dreams for the future, to inspire passion and effort in their learning process. It helps students establish goals and plan their future careers, enhancing their dynamism and creativity. Through this program, students have the opportunity to explore career paths, gain a proper understanding of career choices for their future, and foster entrepreneurial spirit and aspirations.
Tran Ngoc Huy, Deputy Director of the Department of Secondary Education, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, highly appreciates the idea of Nguyen Tat Thanh University and the Education and Times newspaper in guiding career orientation for high school students in Ho Chi Minh City. He mentioned that the specialized topics align with the Party’s and State’s policies, closely following the Project “Career guidance and career orientation for students in general education for the 2018-2025 period” outlined in Decision No. 522/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister.
With a large number of high schools in Ho Chi Minh City, it’s crucial to conduct effective career orientation activities that provide valuable and insightful information.
Creating a unique highlight
The “Chắp cánh ước mơ” program goes beyond just career orientation; it also helps students develop a strong mindset to overcome the challenges of a new learning environment and psychological disturbances in life. Additionally, it enhances entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, preparing students for their entrepreneurial journey while still in school. Moreover, it helps high school students improve their personal capabilities, enrich themselves and their families, demonstrate their abilities, and apply the knowledge they have acquired.
According to Dương Thị Thanh Hương, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Education and Times newspaper, the program organizers will collaborate with school health centers in high schools to provide psychological counseling for students. Furthermore, the program’s hotline will be available 24/7 to support parents and students with career guidance and psychological counseling. Another distinctive feature of the “Chắp cánh ước mơ” program is the specialized counseling sessions tailored for parents, aiming to help them better understand the career paths their children will choose
The media agencies and program organizers will engage in exchanges and discussions on related topics.
The program will be conducted in various forms at high schools in Ho Chi Minh City, with the participation of numerous speakers and experts in the fields of career orientation, entrepreneurship, and psychological counseling.
During the program, Nguyen Tat Thanh University plans to award over 200 scholarships, each worth 15 million VND, to high school students in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total value of over 3 billion VND. This funding is allocated from the scholarship fund at Nguyen Tat Thanh University and will be directly deducted from the first-year tuition fees for the new students entering the university in 2024 through the “Chắp cánh ước mơ” program by Education and Times newspaper and Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
Speaking at the launch event, Mr. Do Duc Que, Deputy Head of the Department of Secondary Education under the Ministry of Education and Training, highly appreciated the meaningful and practical initiatives, which align with the implementation of the educational and career orientation plan as per Decision 522 by the Prime Minister. Mr. Quế emphasized that providing psychological counseling and mental health care for students is one of the strategies of the Party, State, Government, and the Ministry of Education and Training, which has been effectively implemented recently. He hopes that after successful implementation in Ho Chi Minh City, the “Chắp cánh ước mơ” program will be expanded to other provinces and cities, benefiting more students.
Mr. Do Duc Que hopes that the success of the program will spread to many provinces and cities.
