Nguyen Tat Thanh University joins the International Dental Collaboration of the Mekong River Region (IDCMR)
NTTU – On October 24, 2024, a delegation of lecturers from Nguyen Tat Thanh University (NTTU), led by Prof. Ngo Dong Khanh, attended the 18th International Dental Collaboration of the Mekong River Region Conference in Ha Long, Quang Ninh. This is one of the most important events in the field of Dentistry, attracting nearly 1,000 delegates who are experts, teachers and researchers in the field of Dentistry from many countries around the world.
Established in 2004, the International Dental Collaboration of the Mekong River Region (IDCMR) is a non-governmental organization that strives to enhance oral healthcare resources across countries in the Mekong River region. With over 20 years of operation, IDCMR has successfully organized many international conferences in many countries, actively contributing to updating knowledge, skills and new science and technology for the dental industry, while strengthening solidarity and friendship through international cooperation between universities in the region. Currently, IDCMR includes eight key member institutions from Mekong River countries (Thailand, Cambodia, China, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam) and an affiliated member from India.
This year’s international conference provided lecturers with an opportunity to exchange and learn from leading experts while fostering new avenues for extensive research collaboration with international partners. With the theme “Connecting – Creating – Innovating”, the conference emphasized the importance of cooperation in digital transformation, the application of new technological advancements, improving dental treatment effectiveness, and enhancing community oral health care.

Following presentations and negotiations, and upon meeting all necessary organizational requirements, the council unanimously (100%) approved NTTU’s application as the 20th official member of IDCMR, effective October 24, 2024. This membership marks a significant milestone in NTTU’s journey toward international integration, inspiring the Faculty of Dentistry to further invest in research and education, expand international relations, and equip students with advanced knowledge and skills to meet the rising demands in the field.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong, Dean of NTTU’s Faculty of Dentistry, also contributed to the conference by presenting her research on oral cavity cancer, an issue that has received a lot of attention from experts. Her presentation highlighted new biological factors valuable for treatment planning in oral cancer patients, further enriching the conference content.

Additionally, several young lecturers from NTTU participated in E-poster sessions, which attracted the attention of many international delegates, emphasizing the advances in research and application in Dentistry.

Dr. MD. Bui Ngoc Huyen Trang excellently presented her research on implant-supported overdentures for patients with tooth loss, earning Third Place in the conference’s presentation competition. This achievement reflects both her dedication and NTTU’s commitment to research and development in dentistry.

These accomplishments affirm NTTU’s position in the field of dentistry and demonstrate a strong commitment to improving educational quality and scientific research. With support from experts, organizations, and both domestic and international partners, as well as guidance from the university leadership, NTTU’s Faculty of Dentistry aims to expand research and international collaborations while providing students with cutting-edge skills for the future of oral healthcare.
