Nguyen Tat Thanh University cooperates to organize a scientific conference: Primary health care in the era of genomic medicine
NTTU – On July 2, Nguyen Tat Thanh University collaborated with the Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City, the Faculty of Medicine of Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, the Medical Association of Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Chau Trinh University, and the Institute of Medical Genetics co-organized the scientific seminar on “Primary health care in the era of genomic medicine” at Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City
Participating in the program were representatives of the Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City, Faculty of Medicine, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, Medical Association of Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Chau Trinh University, Institute of Medical Genetics and 400 delegates who are scientists, doctors, medical students attended physically and 1000 delegates from all over the country attended virtually.
On the side of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tap – Dean of Faculty of Health Management; Assoc. Prof. Dr. MD. Le Thi Kim Nhung – Dean of Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Bui Le Minh- Head of Biotechnology; Dr. Vu Minh Thiet – Deputy Director of the Hi-tech Institute; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Thanh Sang- Specialist of Hi-tech Institute.
The scientific symposium “Early health care in the era of genomic medicine” is a forum for scientists, researchers in the field of health sciences, and doctors to elicit and impart information, with discussed topics such as: What is genomics? How does gene-generation primary health care work? Shifting trends in medicine? Genome testing?

In the opening address, Prof. Dr. MD. Dang Van Phuoc – Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, said that currently, the genomic medicine is being strongly developed around the world, with the premise of the success of the human genome project. This is considered a revolution for health care and treatment, making an important contribution to improving the quality of primary health care. Prof. Phuoc affirmed that the health system with strong primary health care services will bring good health conditions, save costs, timely intervention and significantly improve the quality of people’s lives.

The workshop will present 07 papers with many contents such as: Primary health care in the era of genomic medicine; Medical Transformation Trends; Genome Testing: today and tomorrow; Genomics: The future and now; family medicine and genomic medicine; Genetic counseling in primary care/primary health care; Grassroots health care receives genomic medicine; the draft initiative Vietnam Health History 2030. In addition, the workshop included a discussion session towards the practice of Primary Health Care in the era of genomic medicine with the participation of scientists, researchers, scientists in the field of health.
According to leading experts in this field, genomic medicine can be integrated into primary health care activities in the near future, allowing intensive medical application at the grassroots health level. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in strengthening human resources, facilities and equipment for the grassroots medical level to be ready to receive new advances in medicine. It is necessary to be equipped with knowledge and proactive attitude to apply medical advances to activities at the grassroots level. World leaders are committed to primary health care, seeing primary health care as the core foundation for each country’s goal of universal health care coverage.
