Nguyen Tat Thanh University Allocated Tens of Billions of Vietnamese Dong for Scholarships to Students in the New Academic Year
On the afternoon of November 24, 2023, at the Military Zone 7 Sports Complex (202 Hoang Van Thu, Ward 9, Phu Nhuan District), Nguyen Tat Thanh University solemnly organized the Opening Ceremony for the academic year 2023–2024 and the Gala program to welcome the new students of the 2023 intake. Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Pham Ngoc Thuong, attended the event, delivering a keynote speech during the Opening Ceremony.
Mrs. Nguyen Mai Lan, Chairwoman of the University Council of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, delivered a speech at the Opening Ceremony. She shared: “The academic year 2023-2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Nguyen Tat Thanh University. We hope that the new students of the 23rd intake, a special academic cohort, will continue to uphold the traditions set by the previous generations of students and contribute to creating new vibrant chapters in the 25-year journey of development for Nguyen Tat Thanh University.”
Here, Mrs. Nguyen Mai Lan, Chairwoman of the University Council of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, extended heartfelt congratulations to the new students who had successfully navigated the challenging high school graduation exam to officially embark on their university journey, realizing their dreams and aspirations. “Under the umbrella of the university named after Uncle Ho – the patriotic youth Nguyen Tat Thanh, we hope that you would leverage the qualities, abilities, and enthusiasm of youth to become useful citizens; adapt to disciplined, competitive, dynamic, and future-oriented work environments in companies” emphasized Mrs. Nguyen Mai Lan.
Vo Thanh Duy, the top scorer in the entrance examination for the Faculty of Medicine at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, was awarded a full-course scholarship of nearly 1 billion Vietnamese dong. This scholarship covers 100% of the tuition fees for the first year and subsequent years, provided that the student achieves academic results of 3.2/4.0 GPA or higher.
During the ceremony, the University honored and awarded a scholarship to Vo Thanh Duy, Class 23DYK2B, Faculty of Medicine, who achieved the top score in the entrance examination with an overall unweighted score of 28.50 out of 30 points, according to the 30-point grading system. The scholarship covers 100% of the tuition fees for the first academic year and subsequent years, contingent on maintaining academic results of 3.2/4.0 GPA or higher from the previous academic year. These are significant material and spiritual support provided by the teaching staff of Nguyen Tat Thanh University to students at the beginning of each academic year.
The representative of the University’s Board of Directors presented scholarships to the 17 top scorers in the entrance examinations for each department.
In addition to scholarships for top scorers in the entrance exams, the university allocates an annual budget of 50 billion Vietnamese dong for scholarships to encourage students who are top scorers in each department, those with outstanding academic achievements, and students facing financial difficulties. On this occasion of the opening ceremony, various businesses and partners of Nguyen Tat Thanh University contributed to the scholarship fund, offering numerous scholarships with a total value exceeding 500 million Vietnamese dong. Notably, Saigon Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company also donated 50 billion Vietnamese dong to the university’s scholarship fund.
Representatives of businesses presented valuable scholarship packages to the University. Alongside its own resources, the University has consistently received support and collaboration from numerous hospitals, companies, and enterprises both domestically and internationally for many years. Beyond providing internships and employment opportunities for graduates, many esteemed businesses have also contributed to supporting the university’s scholarship programs, aiding numerous students facing financial challenges to continue confidently on their path towards realizing their dreams. The care and collaboration of these companies, businesses, and benefactors serve as a tremendous source of motivation and encouragement for the faculty and students of Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
Furthermore, Nguyen Tat Thanh University actively collaborates with the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships to students in remote and underprivileged areas, ethnic minorities, children of naval soldiers, and contribute to building team houses, libraries in coastal and island regions, among other initiatives. Notably, for several years, the University has been a proactive and supportive partner in meaningful and practical projects led by the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund. Over the period from 2018 to the present, the University has contributed 132 full scholarships, totaling over 17 billion Vietnamese dong, to 132 students under the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund. In celebration of the 10-year journey ‘For Beloved Hoang Sa – Truong Sa,’ the University has also donated one reading room in Truong Sa Town and the 146th Naval Brigade; constructed one team house for officers and professional soldiers facing difficulties; and provided 200 scholarships to students in coastal and island areas, totaling 580 million Vietnamese dong.

With its origin as a Vocational Training Center established in 1999, initially aimed at training workers for the garment industry, the university’s first intake included only 200 students in two majors. However, today, after 24 years of formation and development, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has evolved into a multi-disciplinary university, offering education at various levels. It has trained 30,000 learners and students across 16 fields with 52 undergraduate programs, 10 master’s degree programs, and 4 doctoral programs. Annually, the university contributes approximately 5,000 graduates, pharmacists, engineers, etc., to the labor market, playing a role in supplying high-quality human resources for the knowledge-based economy.
