Nearly 500 merit-based scholarships from Nguyen Tat Thanh University to outstanding high-school students from Ho Chi Minh City

NTTU – On the morning of January 4, 2025, at Marie Curie High School (Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Tat Thanh University, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, kicked off the traditional 9/1 camp with the theme “50 Years of Reunification – Proud of the Past, Stepping Firmly into the Future.” The opening ceremony was simultaneously held at 7 clusters across the city.

Attending the opening ceremony on behalf of Ho Chi Minh City were: Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hiếu – Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training; Mr. Ngô Minh Hải – Member of the City Party Committee, Secretary of the City Youth Union, and President of the Ho Chi Minh City based Vietnam Youth Union; Mr. Hồ Tấn Minh – Chief of the Office of the City Department of Education and Training; Mr. Phạm Đăng Nam – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Võ Thị Sáu Ward, District 3; Mrs. Đinh Thị Thiên Phúc – Head of the Political and Ideological Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training; along with representatives from the departments and units under the Department of Education and Training and representatives from the City and District Youth Union Executive Committees.

On behalf of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, the following individuals were present: Dr. Trần Ái Cầm – President of the University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Lan Phương – Vice President; Dr. Hoàng Hữu Dũng – Vice President and the heads and deputy heads of various departments and faculties from Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

At the same time, the traditional 9/1 camp also welcomed the presence of leaders from the Education and Training Departments of various districts, heads of professional clusters, teachers, youth assistants, and especially more than 10,000 outstanding campers from Vocational and Continuing Education Centers, Continuing Education Centers, public and private high schools, and Education and Training Departments from districts across Ho Chi Minh City.

This year’s camp took place across 8 specialized camp clusters at the following schools: Marie Curie High School, Nam Sai Gon High School, Nguyễn Khuyến High School, Lê Minh Xuân High School, Phú Nhuận High School, Trần Hưng Đạo High School, Hồ Thị Bi High School, and Bình Chiểu High School.

In his speech at the camp, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hiếu – Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, reflected on the heroic historical journey of the city’s students during the national liberation and reunification struggles. He highlighted the efforts of the education sector in the 2023-2024 school year to build a progressive, modern, and internationally integrated educational system in Ho Chi Minh City. The achievements thus far are the result of the collective efforts of the entire political system, each educational institution, every ward, commune, and the individual contributions of every teacher and student.

Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hiếu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, recalled the heroic historical traditions of the students from Ho Chi Minh City

“The city has approved the education development strategy until 2030, with a vision for 2035. This will be the task and responsibility of each unit and educational institution to set strategic goals and strive to develop the education sector in Ho Chi Minh City. I also hope that the spirit of the traditional 9/1 camp will be spread more deeply and widely, reaching every high school and education center in the districts of Ho Chi Minh City,” emphasized the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

The 9/1 Traditional Camp in 2025 featured many meaningful activities, such as: honoring outstanding students in academics and following Uncle Ho’s teachings in 2024; recognizing individuals who earned the “Three Good Student” title at the city level; campfire lighting, parades, and visits to the Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space, among others. As part of the camp, the organizers held an exhibition showcasing exemplary students and introduced the “Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space” model at each camp cluster, contributing to the promotion of the values related to Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, ethics, lifestyle.

Nguyen Tat Thanh University awards scholarships to over 500 students

At the camp, Nguyen Tat Thanh University awarded commemorative medals and scholarships to nearly 500 outstanding students from the city, with each scholarship worth 1 million VND. Additionally, the camp featured career counseling activities, guidance on career selection, recreational activities, and the opportunity to receive gifts at the booths of Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

Accompanying the 9/1 Traditional Camp for many years, Dr. Trần Ái Cầm – President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University shared that through the camp, the university hopes that these high-school students from the city will have the opportunity to meet, interact, and learn from each other. The camp will help them clearly identify and orient themselves regarding their abilities, passions, and the relevant fields of study to pursue in their educational and career paths. Dr. Cầm emphasized that educating and providing career guidance for students is the noble mission that Nguyen Tat Thanh University has been fulfilling for 26 years, reflecting a strong sense of responsibility to the community and contributing to the development of the country’s education sector.

On behalf of the more than 10,000 campers from 8 camp clusters, Nguyễn Bảo Ngọc – a student from Marie Curie High School, expressed great pride and joy in participating in the 9/1 Traditional Camp. During the camp, Ngọc and friends engaged in various activities, from visiting traditional spaces to performing in cultural shows and participating in modern flash mob dances. Benefiting from the best learning conditions provided by the University, the generations of students from the city named after Uncle Ho will continue to strive to uphold the principles of moral education, lifestyle, community and social responsibility, and will focus on studying and practicing sports, as President Ho Chi Minh had advised.

The 9/1 Traditional Camp is one of the annual activities organized by Nguyen Tat Thanh University in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training, aimed at providing career orientation for high school students. In addition to the traditional camp, Nguyen Tat Thanh University also partners with the Department of Education and Training in various provinces and cities to offer career orientation for students through activities such as field trips for hands-on experiences, organizing career-related quizzes, and hosting career counseling events.
