Lecturers and students of Nguyen Tat Thanh University have produced dry hand sanitizers to prevent the coronavirus outbreak

NTTU – In the situation of an acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus and the scarcity of hand sanitizer products on the market, lecturers and students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Environmental and Food Engineering of Nguyen Tat Thanh University have researched and produced dry hand sanitizers.

The production process is carried out in the laboratory; the ingredients are prepared under the formulations of the World Health Organization WHO and can be easily purchased such as: Ethanol, Hydrogen peroxide, Glycerol, clear water and natural essential oils. The production process of disinfectant hand sanitizers is strictly controlled from the preparation of ingredients to the production, bottling, labeling and finished products.

Antibacterial hand-washing products before being delivered to Nguyen Tat Thanh University’s staff, lecturers and students are tested through many stages such as checking the concentration of ethanol, pH, viscosity and antibacterial effect. The difference in this hand sanitizer is the composition of natural essential oils produced by lecturers and students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Environmental and Food Engineering. In particular, peppermint and cajeput oils are preferred for their superior antibacterial ability, especially good for respiratory.

The preparation of disinfectant hand sanitizers serving for the University is an opportunity for students of Nguyen Tat Thanh University to apply the learned knowledge into practice, to promote their creativity and responsibility for the community. In addition, to ensure the health of staff and employees who are working during the epidemic and all students who will return to the university after the temporary break, the university has conducted the disinfecting spray at the working rooms, classrooms, labs and practice rooms; and propagandized disease prevention measures on the university’s media.
