Launching the Prospective Tour Guide Contest in 2022
NTTU – With the aim of improving the quality of spiritual and cultural life and creating a useful academic playground for tourism students from universities, colleges and vocational schools in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as promote the development of national tourism industry, on the morning of July 16, Nguyen Tat Thanh University launched the Prospective Tour Guide Contest in 2022.
The contest was co-organized by the Student Culture House in Ho Chi Minh City and the Faculty of Tourism and Vietnamese studies of Nguyen Tat Thanh University from August 14, 2022 to September 11, 2022. The contest is one of activities to welcome the Youth Union congresses at all levels towards the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Congress for the 2022 – 2027 term; celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Student Cultural House in Ho Chi Minh City (October 17, 2002 – October 17, 2022).
Attending the ceremony from the Student Culture House, there were Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Deputy Director (Head of the Organizing Committee); Mr. Vong Trong Minh – Manager of the Culture and Sports Department (Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee). Nguyen Tat Thanh University were represented by Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice President cum Dean of Faculty of Tourism and Vietnamese studies (Co-head of the Organizing Committee), together with staff, lecturers and students. Especially, press agencies and media outlets in Ho Chi Minh City also participated.
Speaking at the opening session, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Deputy Director of the Student Culture House in Ho Chi Minh, Head of the Organizing Committee said: “This is an open playground for all tourism students studying at universities, colleges and vocational schools in Ho Chi Minh City to participate and get experience. The competition focuses on the highest fairness for all contestants”.

According to Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Co-Head of the Organizing Committee: “The contest is not only the useful academic playground for students in the tourism and servie industry, but also an opportunity for them to experience, learn and apply knowledge in practice; since then accumulating more experience for career path”.

At the launching ceremony, the Organizing Committee answered many questions from guests, press agencies, and students. To ensure professionalism and academic integrity of the contest, the Professional Advisory Board has worked so hard from the phase of making the plan and regulations to the phase of organizing, etc. Therefore, the contest is not only where to play but also an opportunity for students to approach the tourism industry as well as develop their career in the future.
The contest will be held at two venues including Nguyen Tat Thanh University and Ho Chi Minh City Student Cultural House in the urban area of Vietnam National University – VNU Ho Chi Minh City, with 3 main rounds:
Preliminary round
– Time: 08h30, 14/8/2022 (Sunday).
– Location: Nguyen Tat Thanh University (300A Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Ward 13, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City).
– Content: 02 theoretical tests including multiple-choice and essay on general knowledge of socio-economics, basic knowledge on tourism and tourist attractions given by the Organizing Committee.
– The Jury will select the best 50 candidates to enter the semi-finals.
Semi-final:
– Time: 09:00, August 28, 2022 (Sunday).
– Venue: Nguyen Tat Thanh University (331 National Highway 1A, An Phu Dong Ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City).
– Content: each contestant will make a presentation on one optional tourist destination and answer questions from the Jury.
– The Jury will evaluate and select 15 finalists.
Final round
– Time: 14:00, September 11, 2022 (Sunday).
– Venue: Student Culture House in the urban area of VNU Ho Chi Minh City (Di An Campus, Dong Hoa Ward, Di An City, Binh Duong Province).
– Content: Each contestant will take four tests including a talent test, a knowledge test, a presentation test and a behavior test about one tourist destination offered by the Jury. Top 5 finalists in the first three contests will be challenged and handle with case studies given by the Jury.
– The Jury will choose winners for prices.
Prize structure: including 01 First Prize, 01 Second Prize, 03 Third Prizes and 10 Consolation prizes.
