Commendation of over 370 outstanding students from Ho Chi Minh City – the traditional camp on January 9th, 2024.
NTTU – On the morning of January 6th, at Long Truong High School (Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Tat Thanh University, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, inaugurated the traditional camp on January 9th under the theme “Proud City Students: Studying and Emulating Uncle Ho’s Teachings.” The opening ceremony took place simultaneously at 7 specialized clusters across the city.
Attending the program from the city’s education leadership were: Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu – Director of the Department of Education and Training; Mr. Duong Tri Dung – Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training; Mr. Luu Thien Duc – Chairman of the Education Union; Mr. Nguyen Chinh Tam – Secretary of the Party Committee’s Office of the Department of Education and Training, along with representatives from the departments and committees under the Department of Education and Training; representatives from the executive committee of the Youth Union and district Youth Union.
From Nguyen Tat Thanh University, there were: Dr. Tran Ai Cam – President of the University; Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh – Vice President; Dr. Hoang Huu Dung – Vice President, along with the presence of faculty members who are heads or deputy heads of departments and faculties of Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
Additionally, the traditional camp on January 9th also welcomed the presence of leaders from the Departments of Education and Training of districts, heads of specialized clusters, teachers from high schools in the city, and especially more than 10,000 outstanding students from Ho Chi Minh City.
This year’s camp took place with 8 camp clusters at: Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Duong Van Duong High School, Nguyen Khuyen High School, Binh Hung Hoa High School, Tay Thanh High School, Tran Van Giau High School, Trung Phu High School, and Long Truong High School, with the participation of over 10,000 campers, officials, and teachers from Vocational Education Centers, Continuing Education Centers, public and private high schools, and the Departments of Education and Training of districts and towns in Ho Chi Minh City.
In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu – Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, mentioned that the January 9th Camp is an opportunity for officials, teachers, and students of the city to reflect on the tradition of students and youth in the city during the period of national liberation and reunification. Through the camp, exemplary models from various schools will be showcased, and there will be opportunities for exchange and learning among students from across the city.

“Hope that the achievements and shining examples of the students and youth of the city will be widely spread to every class and student,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
The traditional camp on January 9th, 2024, featured many meaningful activities, such as: Commending outstanding students in studying and following Uncle Ho’s teachings in 2023; Awarding the title of Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City; Commending individuals who achieved the “Excellent Student with Three Good Performances” title at the city level; Campfire, parades, etc. Within the framework of the camp, the organizers held an exhibition of exemplary student models, as well as introduced the “Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space” model of each camp, contributing to the promotion of values related to the ideology, ethics, style, and career of Ho Chi Minh.
At the camp, Nguyen Tat Thanh University awarded commemorative medals and scholarships to 372 outstanding student models of the city, each worth 1 million Vietnamese dong. In addition, the camp also featured career counseling activities, career orientation, recreational activities, and gift reception at the booths of Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

As a long-standing companion of the traditional camp on January 9th, Dr. Tran Ai Cam, President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, shared that through the camp, the university hopes that the city’s students will have the opportunity to meet, exchange experiences, and learn from each other. Especially, it provides a chance for 9th-grade students to understand and interact with high schools related to their career choices. TS. Cam emphasized that the camp will help students clearly define their abilities and career fields, enabling them to make informed decisions about their academic pursuits and career paths.
High school students learned about various professions and received commemorative gifts from Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
Receiving the title of Outstanding Student of Ho Chi Minh City for the first time, student Doan Nguyen Nha Tran from Marie-Curie High School expressed her surprise and immense happiness. She mentioned that achieving this prestigious title required continuous effort in her studies, alongside adherence to the school’s regulations. Through the camp, Tran hopes to have the opportunity to network, learn, make new friends, and especially strive to participate in the traditional camp on January 9th, 2025, to the best of her ability.
The traditional camp on January 9th is one of the annual activities organized by Nguyen Tat Thanh University in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training to guide career paths for high school students. In addition to the traditional camp, Nguyen Tat Thanh University also collaborates with the Department of Education and Training in provinces and cities to guide career paths for students through activities such as practical experiences, career exploration competitions, and career counseling events.
