Academic activities: strengthening international publication skills
NTTU – On November 17, 2021, Nguyen Tat Thanh University’s Institute of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences organized a series of academic activities with the theme “Strengthening international publication skills” for new researchers in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Topic by Ta Huu Hien, MSc. – Head of Business English Department, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Nguyen Tat Thanh University presented and guided. Currently, if researches in the fields of Economics – finance, Science – engineering, Technology – biology have been widely published both at home and abroad, the researches in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences in Vietnam are somewhat more modest. International publications by researchers of Social Sciences and Humanities in Vietnam are not only monotonous and meager in quantity but also somewhat limited in quality. Researches published in prestigious international journals are mostly done by Vietnamese researchers or by overseas Vietnamese. Language barriers and ideological barriers make the majority of international publications by Social Sciences and Humanities researchers in Vietnam account for a relatively low percentage compared to other fields. That is completely disproportionate to the inherent capacity of current researchers in Vietnam.
Grasping that essential need, in order to promote international publications in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Institute of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences of Nguyen Tat Thanh University organized a series of academic activities “Strengthening international publication skills” for new researchers in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences. The content of the activity series focuses on unleashing the necessary skills in writing a scientific paper according to international standards, specifically: detailed presentation, description of the steps in the writing process (steps in how to prepare before writing, in the process of writing how to get it right and revise it accordingly). This is followed by sections of an original scientific manuscript (from abstract, introduction, research method, thesis, research content, research results, discussion and conclusion), from which help researchers grasp at each research stage, each research content, what to do and how to write… In addition, in the process of participating in activities, learners can practice in rewriting one of the sections of research paper to learn how to write the most appropriate way along with some practical suggestions in the process of practicing standard scientific paper writing skills.
This event received positive attention from young researchers and students who are passionate about scientific research in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities. The series of academic activities not only helps young researchers to access international standard scientific article writing skills, but also creates an environment for exchange and practice of foreign language communication (English), at the same time, to thereby helping people better understand how, process and interpret research results in the most scientific way.
It is known that this series of academic activities is held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. every morning on the Zoom platform and is expected to be held until the end of November. In addition to the topic ” Strengthening international publication skills “, the Institute of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences is expected to organize many other attractive academic topics related to scientific research in the near future to meet the needs and aspirations of the Research team at Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
