Step Forward with Passion – When Girls Choose Civil Engineering to study
NTTU – In modern society, the presence of women in many fields is to increasingly assert their role and position, especially in the industries where it has traditionally seen as “territory” for men. Lê Nguyễn Trà My, a female student in the Civil Engineering program at Nguyễn Tất Thành University, is an exemplary figure for the spirit of ”dare to dream, dare to pursue, and overcome prejudice” to conquer her passion.
Dare to hit the Road Less Traveled
When it comes to the field of Civil Engineering, many people still think it is reserved for men. However, Trà My has broken this stereotype with her bold decision. Through her research, My discovered Nguyễn Tất Thành University as an institution with a modern training program, experienced faculty, and a dynamic learning environment. It wasn’t just about choosing a major; My chose to follow her passion, regardless of the challenges ahead.
Choosing to study Civil Engineering is not only a journey to acquire knowledge but also a journey to assert oneself. Trà My firmly believes that every construction project holds immense value, contributing to beautifying life and serving the community. My’s choice has proven that passion and effort are not limited by gender.
Overcoming Barriers to Shine
Stepping into the lecture hall, Trà My faced many challenges as one of the few female students in her class, and she had to defer one semester behind her peers. In the beginning, My felt isolated and worried about whether she could keep up with the academic pace. However, with determination and the enthusiastic support from her teachers and friends, My gradually integrated and achieved encouraging results.
During her studies, Trà My has always been one of the most diligent and proactive students. As a result, she was awarded a scholarship from the Faculty of Civil Engineering – a well-deserved reward for her relentless efforts. This achievement is not only the result of perseverance but also a great source of motivation for My to continue striving for greater success.
“I have never felt alone because I have always received dedicated support from my teachers and friends. Even though this is a field that is less common for women, here, I feel a sense of equality, respect, and always have the opportunity to develop myself.” – Trà My shared.
Inspiring through Real-Life Experiences
During a construction site visit in Ho Chi Minh City, My had the opportunity to directly observe the construction process and listen to insights from seasoned engineers in the field. This experience helped My gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and beauty of the profession she is pursuing. Practical sessions on surveying and structural design not only allowed My to apply theory to practice but also helped her develop attention to detail, precision, and teamwork skills.
The scholarship that Trà My has earned is a testament to her persistent effort and burning passion. Her favorite quote, “Strive today for success tomorrow,” has always been her guiding principle, helping her overcome challenges in her educational journey and personal development. My believes that every effort made today lays a solid foundation for future success.
