Nguyen Tat Thanh University raised over 600 million VND to support residents in Northern Vietnam affected by floods and storms
NTTU – In recent days, the powerful Yagi storm (Storm No. 3) made landfall, causing heavy rains and flash floods in provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, and Phu Tho. The storm and its aftermath have resulted in numerous casualties and missing persons, with many homes and agricultural land swept away, and aquaculture severely impacted. Infrastructure, including roads and bridges, has been destroyed or damaged, leaving many areas isolated. The lives of people in disaster-affected regions are extremely challenging, and they urgently need support and assistance from all levels, sectors, and society as a whole.
In response to the call from the General Secretary, President of the country, and the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for donations to support residents in Northern provinces affected by Storm No. 3 (Yagi), Nguyen Tat Thanh University recently organized a fundraising ceremony. This initiative aims to share and assist affected communities in overcoming the consequences of the disaster and stabilizing their lives while also promoting the tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance.
The spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance is consistently upheld by the faculty, staff, and students
The fundraising ceremony was attended by the Party Committee, Trade Union of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, the University Council, the leaders, heads and deputy heads of departments, faculties, and institutes, as well as faculty members and staff, and the Youth Union and Student Association wishing to contribute. Before the fundraising began, attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims and the soldiers who lost their lives due to Storm No. 3 (Yagi).

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Mai Lan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chair of the University Council, expressed solidarity with the people of Northern Vietnam in the face of the suffering and losses caused by natural disasters. Emphasizing the spirit of “mutual assistance,” “sharing resources,” and “helping one another,” she called upon the leaders, faculty, staff, and students of Nguyen Tat Thanh University to come together and contribute, demonstrating their sense of responsibility and compassion towards those affected by the disasters. She hoped that the support, both in spirit and material, would help alleviate the pain and losses and contribute to the swift recovery of the lives of those impacted by the storm and floods.

Just two days after the fundraising campaign was launched, from September 11 to September 13, 2024, 100% of the faculty and staff at the university participated, contributing a total of 691,315,000 VND (six hundred ninety-one million three hundred fifteen thousand dong) in the first round. The university will allocate 200 million VND to transfer to the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training’s Trade Union to support the education sector in the affected areas. The remaining funds will be sent to relevant authorities and directly handed over to the residents in Northern regions impacted by the floods, ensuring timely assistance to help them recover from the consequences of Storm No. 3 and stabilize their lives.
This is one of the activities with profound humanitarian significance. Although it was only launched a short time ago, it has received strong support from both faculty and students, reflecting the sense of solidarity, compassion, and responsibility that each staff member, employee, and student at Nguyen Tat Thanh University feels towards those affected by Storm No. 3.
In recent years, the faculty, staff, and students of Nguyen Tat Thanh University have consistently upheld the tradition and spirit of mutual assistance and solidarity. They actively participate in various campaigns and are always ready to contribute both materially and spiritually, providing support, encouragement, and connections to share with those affected by natural disasters and diseases.
