Nguyen Tat Thanh University organizes online international training course on “from research to international publication”

NTTU – In order to improve and enhance skills of publishing scientific articles in international journals, especially in the field of social sciences for academic staff and researchers, Nguyen Tat Thanh University in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Taylor & Francis Group organized the international training course on “from research to international publication”.

The training course was taught directly by experts from Taylor & Francis Group via Zoom, attracting the participation of many lecturers and researchers from Nguyen Tat Thanh University and other universities interested in international publication in the field of social sciences, research ethics and scientific integrity in publishing.

Attending the opening of the international training course, there were Dr. Le Hoang Dung, Vice Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Vietnam National University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Hong – Vice President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University; leaders of Taylor & Francis Group; Mr. Tri Nguyen – Regional Director of iGroup; together with more than 200 lecturers and researchers.

The training course consists of 2 sessions:

Fundamentals of Publishing was instructed by Dr. Victoria Babbit – Researcher Development & Outreach, Taylor & Francis Group. “Publishing is an integral part of the research process for most researchers because they need to have at least one publication in their professional career, researchers also need to adapt to today’s ever-evolving publishing landscape” said Dr. Babbit. This training session was designed for young researchers, or those who have not much experience in publishing, especially international publication. The training session provided an overview of current academic publications to help authors better understand this publishing process to help lecturers and researchers gain a deeper understanding of the publication context, manuscript preparation, abstracts, titles, headings, and keywords. In addition, this session would help lecturers and researchers know how to choose appropriate journals, open access, required documents for submission, reviews, and publication.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Hong – Vice President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University

Research & Publishing Ethics was instructed by Dr. Sabina Alam – Publishing Ethics and Integrity, Taylor & Francis Group, who has been working for Taylor & Francis Group since 2018, leading the Publishing Ethics and Integrity team providing advices and supports for peer-reviewed journals, ethical issues, research integrity, and policies to minimize risks and ensure compliance with the highest standards of publishing ethics. This training session provided an overview of publishing ethics and the responsibility of copyright, case studies of typical issues such as copyright disputes, plagiarism, reliability of images or data, reuse of resources from the third party, etc., and advices on key steps of avoiding those issues.

Completing two informative training sessions, all participants understood the importance of publishing process for a successful author; explored all aspects of publishing and guidances for successful publishing. At the end, all lecturers and researchers were awarded the certificate of participation by Taylor & Francis Group.

Nguyen Tat Thanh Univeristy’s leaders really emphasize the training activities to improve the capacity of academic staff on scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship over the academic years. In such training courses, the university has invited many experts to share experiences and knowledge for the lecturers, researchers and students, since then expanding cooperative relationships in scientific research.
