The full scholarship for a Hospitality Management student

NTTU – On the morning of October 2nd, 2020, the Faculty of Tourism and Vietnamese Studies of Nguyen Tat Thanh University awarded a full scholarship to Huynh Chi Cong – a student majoring in Hospitality Management.

Keep the unfinished dream  alive

Graduating from the high school two years ago, Cong had to give up his dream of entering the university because of his family’s difficulties. His father has diabetes and mainly stays at home without working, the family’s income depends on the salary of his mother who is working for Nguyen Tat Thanh University. In order to reduce the financial burden for his family, Cong applied for a part-time job as waiter at the coffee shop. Two weeks ago, Cong’s mother passed away, leaving the family a huge loss. Cong’s educational path seemed to stop there.

Understanding Cong’s difficult situation as well as wishing him to continue his dream, the Faculty of Tourism and Vietnamese Studies of Nguyen Tat Thanh University decided to offer Cong a full tuition fee scholarship. Receiving this scholarship from the university, Cong emotionally shared: “I am so surprised and extremely happy, with my current family situation, this scholarship shall be very practical and meaningful, which motivates me to continue my unfinished dream. I will try my best to study and improve myself to deserve it”.

Be an inspiring person

The full scholarship is applied from the 2020-2021 academic year until the end of the study period. Ms. Phan Thi Ngan, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Vietnamese Studies, shared: “In order to support Cong in studying, the faculty has also offered him a job as a waiter at the faculty’s cafeteria system or a security guard in the university’s security team. This is the effort of the university and the faculty to enable him to study as well as to earn more to cover and support his family”.

Dr. Hoang Huu Dung, Vice President conveyed his motivating words to Cong: “If you don’t continue studying, you still can work as a waiter at restaurant or coffee shop and you may be promoted to the Manager position. However, with good edcuation and efforts, after graduation, you shall gain more knowledge and opportunity to reach much better positions. Making money in the short term may be easy, but in the long run, it will be hard for you to compete with people who are well-trained with high qualification. I hope that you shall try your best to be the good role model for other young people”.

Being grateful for the help, support and facilitation from the university and the Faculty of Tourism and Vietnamese Studies, Cong emotionally expressed: “I will try to study well, not to disappoint all of you, and fulfill my dream”.

The above scholarship is not only a practical financial support to Cong in the future study path, but also conveys a profound humanistic message as well as an affirmation of the university to always accompany and support students.
