Nguyen Tat Thanh University receives 1,000 books donated
On January 6th, 2021, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs in Ho Chi Minh City donated more than 1,000 books to Nguyen Tat Thanh University (NTTU) Library and Information Center. The donation is made by Dr. Vo Ta Han, a Vietnamese American. It is a part of the project granting books to Vietnamese universities for the purposes of research and teaching.
The donation ceremony welcomed the participation of Mr. Tran Duc Hien, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lan, Head of Culture and Social Information Department; Ms. Le Thi My Chau, Chairman of Vinafirst Joint Stock Company, representative from Vo Ta Han Scholarship Fund and other representatives from related departments and enterprises. From NTTU, Dr Tran Ai Cam, President of NTTU attended the ceremony with the presence of Department Heads/Deputy Heads, Deans, Center Directors and NTTU students.
At the ceremony, NTTU received a donation of 220 books worth more than VND 700 million. Particularly, many books are classified as rare and valuable collections in the field of Science and Technology, Medicine, Pharmacy, etc. These valuable books will assist lecturers, students, researchers to update knowledge in relation to advanced scientific and technological fields in the world. Hence, this contributes to improve the quality of training and scientific research of NTTU which plays an important role in national development and knowledge expansion.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Tran Ai Cam expressed her delight when receiving the support of Dr. Vo Ta Han and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs in Ho Chi Minh City. The donation will be a invaluable source of materials for research and teaching activities aiming at knowledge expansion and national development in which the team of lecturers and students of NTTU is dedicated to.
During the event, NTTU awarded to the Vo Ta Han Scholarship Fund a scholarship of VND 50 million. With this financial assistance, NTTU hopes to partner with Vo Ta Han Scholarship Fund in supporting young generations to encourage them in learning. Previously, NTTU also received a donation of 668 foreign language books published by the World Scientific at the value of approximately VND 2 billion.
During the past few years, NTTU has always concentrated on the development of reading culture amongst staff, lecturers and students. NTTU invested to build 3 nationally standardized Library and Information Centers with an area of more than 6,000 square meters. These spacious and modern libraries are equipped with a range of facilities such as reading rooms, computer rooms, books and materials for learning, research, and entertainment activities of students and lecturers. Currently, NTTU Library and Information Center accommodates 3,000 computers, over 100,000 copies of books, and an electronic system of learning materials connected with numerous domestic and international universities and institutes. This is the place providing a significant source of information for our lecturers and students.
