NTTU- On August 3rd, 2022, at Saigon Innovation Hub, there take place the workshop on promoting the establishment of technology transfer offices in universities, and the comprehensive cooperation agreement signing ceremony between Saigon Innovation Hub (Sihub) – Expara and universities including Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Van Hien University, University of Agriculture and Forestry, the Center for Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer of National University Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Thu Dau Mot University, Eastern International University, University of Natural Sciences, Van Lang University

The workshop attracted the participation of many organizations and universities

Attending the workshop, there were Huynh Kim Tuoc, MSc. – Director of the Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances; Mr. Douglas Abrams – Founder and CEO of Expara, Singapore.

Nguyen Tat Thanh University was represented by Dr. Tran Ai Cam – President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Hong – Vice President; Dr. Tran Viet Thang – Deputy Manager of Science and Technology Department; Huynh Hong Mai, MSc. – Deputy Director of Innovation and Incubation Center.

Speaking at the opening session, Huynh Kim Tuoc, MSc. – CEO of Sihub shared his valuable 30-year working experience and the importance of the establishment of technology transfer offices in universities to promote the development of technology researches and open up many opportunities for projects to be more successful.

At the workshop, experts said that the commercialization of scientific and technological research results to create new technologies and high-tech products is becoming an urgent issue attracting great attention from government, administrative agencies, research institutes and enterprises. In order to effectively commercialize research results, it is necessary to build a research governance framework, then transform research into an asset and trading that asset…

Some delegates shared that solutions on innovation and intellectual property rights in universities are still not effective and that the connection between universities and companies is still lacking and not strong enough. They suggested universities should actively participate in the technology transfer process because small and medium-sized enterprises do not invest much in technology research and innovation and the collaboration between universities and enterprises shall immediately transform the research results of universities into products or models that enterprises can do.

The workshop encouraged universities to ensure their legitimate benefits and favorable conditions in technology transfer activities, develop the science and technology market, build the national innovation system, improve qualifications, develop technological potentials… through license transfer, spin-off, startup…

Nguyen Tat Thanh University‘s Innovation and Incubation Center regularly organizes activities to inspire entrepreneurial and innovative startup spirit, such as start-up events, incubating startup ideas of students and lecturers, connecting partners to build an innovative startup ecosystem for universities and localities; specifically, activities in incubation, startup mentoring, capital investment, connecting partners and businesses, building a network of startup mentors and an innovative startup ecosystem for universities and localities.
