Capacity Building Workshop: “Application of AI and Chat GPT to Studying, Research, and Teaching”

NTTU – From January 10th to 12th, 2024, Nguyen Tat Thanh University organized the capacity building workshop “Application of AI and Chat GPT to Studying, Research, and Teaching” for faculty and students of the University.

In order to increase the capacity of staff, faculty, and students for the academic year 2023-2024, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, in collaboration with the Enterprise Research, Application and Innovation Institute (3AI), organized the capacity building workshops named “Application of AI and Chat GPT to Teaching and Research” for faculty on January 10th, 2024 and “Application of AI and Chat GPT to Study, Research, and Entrepreneurship” for students on January 12th, 2024.

The guest speaker of the workshop was Mr Ngo Huu Thong, Permanent Deputy Director of the Enterprise Research, Application and Innovation Institute; chief-editor of the book “Complete Chat GPT Guide – Career Building in the Digital Age’’. On behalf of Nguyen Tat Thanh University was Assoc.Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Hong, Vice President of the University, along with nearly 200 esteemed professors from various faculties, institutes, departments, and nearly 400 students from different departments/institutes of NTTU.

“Since its public launch at the end of 2022, Chat GPT has quickly attracted the attention of millions of users globally thanks to its ability to provide detailed responses and fluent answers across various knowledge domains. ChatGPT has been used in various fields, including education. It is hoped that this capacity building workshop will help our lecturers, staff, and students learn how to effectively exploit and minimize the limitations of Chat GPT besides gaining a comprehensive, objective understanding of the role of AI and Chat GPT, thereby applying them to studying, teaching, research, and entrepreneurship”, said Assoc.Prof. Tran Thi Hong at the workshop.

During the workshop, Mr. Ngo Huu Thong talked about the following key points:
– Sharing knowledge about how Chat GPT and other AI tools operate, from basic concepts to detailed principles and algorithms. Analyzing in detail the challenges and risks of using Chat GPT to understand its limitations and how to address them.
– Creating real experiences by guiding participants to practice using Chat GPT to solve specific problems related to studying, research, and teaching so that they can experience it firsthand.
– Chat GPT can assist students in solving some studying-related matters and providing advice on inquiries regarding employment, entrepreneurship, etc. Particularly, Chat GPT provides students with the opportunity to communicate with an AI system, helping them improve communication skills with “androids” and thus enhancing their communication skills with other technological systems in the future.- Providing multidimensional perspectives on the opportunities, challenges, and optimization potential of AI and ChatGPT in teaching and scientific research activities, while enhancing the capacity of university lecturers and researchers in the context of developing AI tools.

With this hot, engaging content, participants in the discussion session lively raised questions for the speakers. The questions revolved around attitudes, behaviors, and approaches of individuals when using this tool, methods of detecting students’ use of ChatGPT to cheat during exams, as well as concerns about the environment and sustainability when using AI tools,… The speaker answered participants’ questions, and also prompted further discussion to encourage participants to form their own answers.

The capacity building workshop helped participants accumulate valuable experiences, generated enthusiasm, and also provoked thoughts. The workshop attracted attention due to its practicality and high applicability, especially in studying, research, and teaching.
