Prof. Dr. Sci. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, First Class

NTTU – On March 29, 2023, Prof. Dr.Sci. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh – Honorary Chairman of the Scientific Council of Nguyen Tat Thanh University was awarded the Order of Merit, First Class, by the President of the Republic of Poland, prof. Andrzej Duda. This is the highest reward of the Polish State for its citizens for civil and military meritorious service in peacetime or war, for the glory and development of the Republic of Poland.

Cooperating with Nguyen Tat Thanh University since 2012, Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh is the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Journal of Computer Science (VJCS) – Vietnam’s international journal on Computer Science. This is the Journal of Nguyen Tat Thanh University in cooperation with Springer – the world’s leading magazine publisher. VJCS publishes 4 issues/year, the first issue was released in the first quarter of 2014. In April 2021, VCJS was officially included in the list of prestigious international SCOPUS indexed journals and a month later was added to the list E- SCI. Currently, VJCS is rated as one of the top 5 scientific journals in Vietnam. Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh has many contributions to the training and scientific research of the University, he is also the Senior Advisor of the Faculty of Information Technology, Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh was born in 1963 in Quang Binh, currently Head of Applied Informatics Department and full professor of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Poland. He studied in Poland in 1979, defended his doctorate thesis in 1989, and was awarded the title of Professorshi in 2006. In 2009, he was honored to be the first Vietnamese awarded the title of State Professorship by the President of Poland. In 2011, he was specially conferred the title of Professorship in Vietnam. He is a member of the Scientific Accreditation Council (Rada Doskonałości Naukowej) established in 2019 – the body that replaces the State Council for Professorship Titles, directly under the President of the Republic of Poland. The Council has 47 branches of the arts and sciences, each with 3 members. Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh has the second highest number of votes among 9 candidates of the Information Technology industry and is the first foreign member of the Council.

On the international level, Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh is Chairman of the IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Computational Collective Intelligence; awarded the title of Distinguished Scientist by the ACM Association (USA); in charge of several research projects funded by EU programs such as COST, DAAD, Polonor and the National Foundation of Research and Development; an expert of the National Research and Development Center and of the European Commission in the evaluation of research projects under the MSCA-IF, REA-FET, EUREKA and COST programmes. Besides VJCS, Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh is also the Editor-in-Chief of two international journals, Transactions on Computational Collective Intelligence (Springer) and Journal of Information and Telecommunication (Taylor&Francis); Editor-in-chief of 2 book series of IGI Global (USA).

Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh is the world’s leading scientist on Artificial Intelligence and Collective Intelligence in particular, the author of over 450 articles published in famous journals, 46 books, 2 patents. He gave 25 plenary speeches at international conferences, more than 45 lectures in many countries; named in the TOP 2% of the list of scientists with the most cited publications (compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier in 2019).

Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh also made many valuable contributions to the cause of training and scientific research in the country, being the initiator and organizer of many International Conferences on Informatics in Vietnam, attracting the participation of many leading scientists; being supervisor for Vietnamese PhD students to successfully defend their doctorate thesis.
