NTTU students proceed directly to the 2024 Inter-University English Competition finals
Nguyen Tat Thanh University (NTTU) students have triumphed in the Cluster 5 Semi-Final rounds of the prestigious 2024 Inter-University English Competition – “Spell in a Nutshell,” earning themselves a direct path to the finals.
Among the intense competition involving teams and individuals from five universities, NTTU stood out with exceptional performances, securing 01 First Prize and 01 Encouragement Prize for individual contestants, as well as 01 First Prize for team performance. The Semi-Finals witnessed active participation from 5 team contestants and 15 individual contestants from renowned institutions such as NTTU, Hung Vuong University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Sports, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Management. Dr. Nguyen Lan Phuong, Vice President of NTTU, emphasized the significance of the competition in providing a platform for students to showcase their extensive vocabulary, engage in language communication practice, and foster friendly competition among peers from diverse academic backgrounds.

Contestants navigated through two rounds, both individual and team-based, undertaking challenges encompassing tasks like word arrangement, spelling, reading, crossword decoding, and artistic expression. The competition rigorously evaluated participants’ vocabulary, pronunciation, and spelling prowess, demanding quick thinking and accurate responses within stringent time constraints.

NTTU students, leveraging their linguistic prowess, clinched “double” First Prizes in individual and team performances, alongside an Encouragement Prize for outstanding individual achievement. Particularly, student Nguyen Minh Tri emerged as the overall First Prize winner, earning rewards valued at 12 million VND, including cash, a TESOL (IWD) course, and an i-Test account. Student Dang Phuoc Dien received the Encouragement Prize.

The team from NTTU’s Faculty of Medicine, comprising Nguyen Trong Tung Anh, Pham Nguyen Duy Dan, and Truong Ngoc Minh, secured the overall First Prize for team performance, garnering accolades worth 35 million VND. In recognition of their achievements, the University’s Board of Directors and the Faculty of Foreign Languages presented a special prize of 5 million VND to the First Prize winners, further affirming their exceptional performance. With their triumph, the victorious individuals and teams have earned coveted spots in the finals of the 2024 Inter-University English Competition – “Spell in a Nutshell.” Nguyen Minh Tri, representing the Faculty of Foreign Languages at NTTU, expressed elation for his individual First Prize win, highlighting the crucial role of support and encouragement from loved ones. Tri’s sentiments echoed a commitment to further enhance his linguistic skills and bolster self-confidence in preparation for the forthcoming final round.

Organized by DTP Education Solutions Vietnam in collaboration with esteemed universities, the 2024 Inter-University English Competition aims to provide a valuable platform for students to exchange knowledge, connect with peers, and demonstrate their proficiency across various professional domains. The final round is scheduled to convene on April 20, 2024, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.
The Overall First Prize for the group competition also belongs to a team of students from the Faculty of Medicine, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, including Nguyen Trong Tung Anh, Pham Nguyen Duy Dan, and Truong Ngoc Minh, with a total prize of 35 million VND
