Nguyen Tat Thanh University announces the certificate of 4-star rating granted by Higher Education Ranking System of universities in Vietnam and the region- University Performance Metrics

In the morning of August 27th 2020, Nguyen Tat Thanh University (NTTU) is proud to organize the announcement ceremony of 4-star rated university granted by Higher Education Comparative Ranking System – University Performance Metrics, as well as other nationally and internationally accredited training curriculums.

Participating in the ceremony, the invited guests included Mr. Tran Xuan Dien – Party Committee Secretary, Ministry-level party committee under Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy – Deputy President of Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Unions, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc – Project Manager of Higher Education Comparative Ranking System of universities in Vietnam and the region – UPM, Team leader of National Advisory Group for Educational Innovation, Former Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Hoi Nghia – Former Vice President of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Kim Hong – Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education; Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Van De – Emeritus Professor, Former Vice President of Dong Thap University.

At the ceremony, NTTU officially announced to all the invited guests, lecturers and staff and students that NTTU is honored to be one of the 30 universities in Vietnam and ASEAN to be rated as a 4-star institution by UPM, focusing on practical application. The results of quality accreditation and stars-rating showed a true and positive picture regarding the higher education quality of Vietnamese and Southeast Asia universities. It also brings useful and multidimensional information to relevant stakeholders from universities, students, employers and managers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Manh Hung shared: “Quality can only be achieved through a long-lasting process. Therefore, from the early years of establishment and development, NTTU has taken quality as a guideline to all training activities, particularly in focusing on developing a system of higher education quality assurance, oriented by strategic goals of quality assurance. With the enthusiastic guidance from a group of experts and efforts of all university staff, NTTU is proud to be one out of five applied universities to be rated 4-star by UPM. In the upcoming years, NTTU will strive to achieve UPM and QS 5 Star-rating and continues to participate in the assessment of training curriculums according to Circular 04 of Ministry of Education and Training, AUN-QA and other quality assurance systems”.

At the ceremony, Prof. Dr Nguyen Huu Duc spoke on behalf of the research team and congratulated the achievements of NTTU as the only private Vietnamese university currently rated as a 4 star-institution by UPM. Unlike other worldwide university ranking systems, UPM answers the questions of the necessity, reflecting the important characteristics of universities in the context of Industry 4.0. It can be affirmed that NTTU’s present achievements derive from the efforts of lecturers and staff of the whole university. It is a foundation for NTTU to self-evaluate and plan for strategic development in the future to obtain a higher rating.

In addition, NTTU is the only private university to be recognized as a 4 star-institution rated by QS Stars (UK). Besides, 3 training undergraduate training programs which are Hospitality Management, Electrical Engineering – Electrics, Pharmacy achieved the quality accreditation according to Circular 04 of Ministry of Education and Training. Other programs of Information Technology, Business Administration, Finance – Banking and English Linguistics also met AUS-QA’s accreditation standards.

UPM stands for University Performance Metrics, a Higher Education Comparative Ranking System developed by a research team of Vietnam National University, Hanoi with the initial aims to meet the requirements of innovation and responsiveness of universities in the context of Industry 4.0. UPM conducts ranking and evaluations in various fields, such as rankings Ranking on research index of higher education institutions, Ranking on publication size index of higher education institutions, Ranking on the average papers per faculty of higher education institutions, Ranking on the average citation index of higher education institutions, Ranking on internal research index of higher education institution and UPM Star Ratings. The main contents of UPM star-rating combine the commonly-used standards found in other quality accreditation systems such as Education, Research, Internationalization, Community Services. UPM also covers other important categories such as Strategic Governance, Entrepreneurship, Innovation System, IT and Digital Resources.
