Workshop on Applied approach to Designing and Implementing Outcome Based Education (OBE) Framework at Nguyen Tat Thanh University

NTTU – In order to equip and improve the training capacity for the leaders, lecturers, and staff of the University, the Quality Assurance Department and Human Resources Department of Nguyen Tat Thanh University have coordinately organized the workshop on applied approach to Designing and Implementing Outcome Based Education (OBE) Framework). This is a periodic training program in 2020 for more than 100 staff from 14 faculties being organized in 2 phases: Phase 1 (February 4, 2020 – February 7, 2020) and Phase 2 (February 10, 2020 – February 13, 2020) at Hall A801, Campus 300A, Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

The training course received the participation of: Mr. Johson Ong Chen Bin – an Expert of AUN – QA Accreditation Organization; Dr. Nguyen My Ngoc, Vice Director of Center for Educational Testing and Quality Assessment, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City. On the side of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, there were Dr. Tran Ai Cam – Vice President; as well as leaders of Faculties, Departments, Centers and a large number of staff and lecturers working and teaching at the University.

The program focused on the following contents: Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework; Identify related needs of stakeholders and engagement strategy; Outcome Standards and Bloom Scale; Design and Map the training program; Teaching and learning; Instruction strategies and methods; Forms of student assessment; Principles of evaluation; design Rubrics and assessment scale; Manage changes in the workplace and during the implementation of OBE.

Delivering the opening speech at the training course, Dr. Tran Ai Cam expressed her deep gratitude to two speakers, Mr. Johson Ong Chen Bin and Dr. Nguyen My Ngoc who are experts in the field of training quality assessment, have facilitated and accompanied the University in offering leaders, staff and lecturers with knowledge of training capacity under AUN – QA and OBE’s assessment standards so that the University could guide and adjust their training programs according to international standards and reach the outcome criteria.

It could be said that Nguyen Tat Thanh University is one of the pioneers in implementing the learning outcome design. When developing learning outcomes, it also requires a process that must combine academic and pedagogical methods and feedbacks from enterprises. To be able to graduate from Nguyen Tat Thanh University, students must meet the required learning outcomes for each profession, be well-equipped with such skills as foreign language proficiency, information technology, other soft skills, and etc.

The strict implementation of learning outcome development has contributed to upgrade the standards and the quality of lecturers for teaching which motivates the University to build its brand name and enhance the value of their degrees.
